TRACK YOUR VISA USING YOUR CASE NUMBER OR PAYMENT CONFIRMATION NUMBER.

You can track your visa processing, and it is easy to do. Being able to monitor and track your visa processing gives you an idea about your estimated travel date, and puts you in charge of your preparations.

But first, you will have to fill out form DS 230 part 1 for each family member. You will usually receive form OF-169/DS2001 which is a checklist to help you get all needed documents. Your recruiting company will give you guidance and instructions on how to fill out these forms legibly and accurately.

How do you track your visa? Having turned in your visa fees, you would receive a payment confirmation number.

You can either use the confirmation number or your case number to track and monitor the progress of your visa processing. Just call the toll free number of NVC (national visa center) and follow instructions.

Another good thing about knowing how to track your visa is it prevents the incidence of people quitting their jobs, selling their houses or making travel arrangements whilst they have not been granted their visas. You will have to get your visa(s) in hand, and even wait for instructions from your agency before carrying out any of the above.

The final stage of this visa processing exercise by NVC (national visa center) is when you receive a package through your recruiting company (because you have elected your agency as choice of agent), and the NVC forwards your file to the nearest US embassy where you will pick up your visa.

Your package indicates the visa interview date. It will also make mention of documents and type of photos to present at the embassy on the day of your interview.

The principal applicant (i.e RN) and each beneficiary (RN's family) must be present at the embassy on the day of the visa interview.

The package also contains a letter that provides contact details of designated physicians’ offices where you will do your visa medical exam.

The required medical exam may vary depending on your region, age and special situations. A typical US immigrant visa medical exam may include physical examination, chest x-ray, vaccination, HIV and Syphilis tests.

In addition, there may be other tests like stool for parasites. Some of the visa medical tests may be waived for special situations/conditions like pregnancy and breast feeding.

Should there be any abnormality in any of the above tests, a repeat test may be required where necessary. Or you may be asked to seek a specialist’s consultation with report.

A bad visa medical report or one that requires further tests and specialists’ report could cause major delays in the acquisition of an immigrant visa.

Also, the provision of inaccurate and questionable information during the completion of the visa application forms, or last minute inclusion of somebody (as a spouse or child) in your beneficiary list can result in an unusual delay in your visa acquisition.

Because, you would have to go to the extra length in convincing the embassy that your action was not a visa racketeering.

Another major delay comes from retrogression! Retrogression basically means the general shortage of immigrant visas. Some individual countries however experience“local retrogression” where the country runs out of its allotted number of immigrant visas for the year.

Retrogression can also affect your family members who were not on the initial visa application. A school of thought advises that you file immigrant visa for your entire family during the initial application.

You should do this even if you don’t intend to travel with the whole family on the same date. This is because retrogression and other federal legislation could cost you years to bring your family together.

Usually a holder of an immigrant visa has up to six months within which to enter US. Also, one can stay out of USA for up to 6months. It is also possible for one with tenable reasons to apply for up to 2yrs reentry permit in order to stay out of USA, and still maintain his/her permanent residence status.

The RN or family however jeopardize the status of his/her green card by staying out of USA for more than 6months without a reentry permit.
