UNDERSTANDING PRIORITY IN NCLEX RN IS BASIC RULE 1!

The appropriate use of priority in NCLEX RN exam is very significant to your success. In fact priority is one basic but very important principle you must master as a registered nurse. It is ranked top most when it comes to passing NCLEX-RN and on the field of RN practice.

An RN friend lamented that all answers she chose during the NCLEX-RN exam were correct and could not belief she failed.

Yes, almost all answers in NCLEX-RN are correct! But let’s clarify this once again. Scoring or passing NCLEX-RN is not about getting 50 or 65 percent of the total questions correct. Neither is it about just picking a correct answer.

Most of the possible answers to the multiple choice questions in NCLEX-RN exam are correct answers.

But what makes NCLEX-RN different and unique is which of the possible answers is MOST or VERY correct, or which skill will you perform first?

Most of the time, all we do are correct. But modern nursing is about what task you will perform first. And which patient will you attend to first?

Or which member of the health care team will you contact first if you have a particular problem? That is where the magic of priority comes in!

There are a couple of criteria that are used to measure priority. But the three that are used most often are below:

1. ABC System :

A) Airway

B) Breathing

C) Circulation.

2. The Nursing process :

I. Assessment

II. Analysis

III. Planning

IV. Implementation

V. Evaluation.

3. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs :

a) Biological and physiological needs

b) Safety needs

c) Belongingness and love needs

d) Esteem needs and

e) Self actualization, in that order.

You got to understand the above criteria well and know how to use them during NCLEX-RN.
