APRIL 2007 NCLEX TEST PLAN HELPS YOU READ WITHIN NCLEX-RN SYLLABUS

The NCLEX test plan is a detailed form of re-structuring the entire RN course into the four client needs; and it’s prepared by the NCSBN (national council of state board of nursing). The test plan comes in two documents:one for the candidate and another for the instructor.

Every test plan is only good for 3 years after which a new one is prepared with much cognizance to the prevailing clinical situations.

The current test plan was reviewed in April 2007. Thus, you got to be sure all books and other study materials are in tune with the April 2007 test plan.

In fact the test plan becomes your study guide for NCLEX-rn. It explains in detail the components of the NCLEX-RN exams and comes with sample questions under each category and subcategory.

It also gives you all information about NCLEX-RN; from the composition of exam items through general pre-exam instructions to types of question formats and styles.

All NCLEX-RN items (questions) are prepared from the test plan. The questions are prepared to address the four (4) categories of client needs, levels of cognitive ability, and integrated processes.

Integrated processes are those processes that are basic to the day-to-day practice of a registered nurse.

There are 4 of them and these are:

1) Nursing process.

2) Caring.

3) Communication and Documentation.

4) Teaching/Learning.

All these are integrated into the entire client needs.

A Percentage of questions are allotted to each of the categories (2 with subcategories) of the client needs.

These categories are:

• SAFE, EFFECTIVE CARE ENVIRONMENT

Its subcategories are management of care, and safety and infection control.

• HEALTH PROMOTION AND MAINTENANCE.

• PSYCHOSOCIAL INTEGRITY

• PHYSIOLOGICAL INTEGRITY.

This also has basic care and comfort, reduction of risk potential, physiological adaptation and pharmacological and parenteral therapies as subcategories.

You can obtain a copy of the detailed April 2007 test plan, both the candidate version and tutor versions, for free from the NCSBN’s website. A true copy comes with the percentage of the categories & subcategories that composes an NCLEX-RN exam.
