HOW TO IDENTIFY THE DIFFERENT RN AGENCIES.

There are a lot of different RN agencies out there today. And your choice of a recruiting company is one single decision that can either facilitate your transition into a complete US RN or cripple this dream forever.

A few international RNs have smoothly turned US RNs by courtesy of some great agencies. And others too either never practiced registered nursing or, if they did at all, only became their agency’s labor force for several years as a result of deadly contracts.

Don’t just allow any selfish individual or recruiting company to use few minutes to wreck your future and career.Or shatter the dream of your family who may be looking up to you for a better future in US.

Thus, it is important to carefully choose which RN recruiting company to handle your relocation exercise.

Let's try to group the different RN agencies according to their areas of operation. Registered nurse recruiting companies basically come under three categories:

1. Those that recruit experienced RNs, traveler RN, for hospitals with RN shortages. Most of these agencies just function within USA.

2. And those that go out into the world to recruit international RNs for US hospitals; and sometimes for hospitals in other countries.

3. Another group of RN agencies function as both 1 and 2 above.

But I will be talking about number 2,and to some extend 3. And then go further to give you an idea about the different RN agencies under number 2/3.That way you will be able to make out good recruiting companies from bad ones.

A considerable number of different RN agencies and agents are springing up each day especially in the developing world. They are taking advantage of the strong quest by international RNs to relocate to USA. And most victims of these bad recruiting companies are from Africa and Asia.

In fact, some of these agencies just don’t exist. They don’t have traceable/physical address. They are simply scams.

I was personally a victim of these scams and was once duped to the tune of $500. And that gave me the insight to be able to outwit three other attempts at defrauding me. The first fool is never a fool...

For easy identification, I will try and classify the different RN agencies as below:

• First is the type I will call Second hand RN Company, and one of the bad agencies. These are established companies with address and few workers.

These recruiting agencies will usually go after the Filipino RNs, African RNs and registered nurses from other developing countries.

They are always looking for registered nurses who had managed to pass CGFNS and or NCLEX-RN. They will usually not sponsor your RN licensure exams.

Many are those foreign trained RNs who had managed to pass the licensure exams by themselves, but are having difficulty in securing an RN job offer or getting a petitioner for their immigrant visa(s). It is at this stage that most of them end up in the hands of the bad RN agencies.

A typical “second-hand” RN agency will be able to move you to USA but cannot provide you with RN employment they promised. But rather, ‘sell’ you to other well established recruiting agencies. You may have to sign another contract.

Or they get you jobs that they don’t have direct link with. In other words, they are actually recruiting for another agency which then becomes your substantive employer.

• The second type is another Bad RN recruiting company which goes for foreign registered nurses who don’t even have CGFNS certificate. They only organize series of NCLEX-RN-like tests, collect the best performed RNs. And ask you to pay for registrations, visa fees and other fees.

They will manage to sneak you into US or UK using all means known to them alone. One popular means they usually employ is the creation of fake/artificial marriages for the RNs. They will promise you heaven in the US, including helping you to write NCLEX-RN within weeks of arriving in US.

On arrival, you are all put in studio rooms. Sometimes two or more RNs will be sharing the same room.

By this time, you had contracted yourself to 3-5years or more agreement, or else you pay tens of thousands of dollars or pound sterling for breaking a contract.

You will be doing non-rn profession jobs. Apparently, you will just be working and working for these companies.

All your traveling documents will be in their custody until you finish the required number of years in the contract. In fact this space is not enough to list the atrocities the victims of this agency endure.

• The third RN agency is neither the first nor the second. These are individuals who call themselves recruiting agents and they move from hospital to hospital for registered nurses.

They will introduce and refer you to any agency for referral commissions. And they may refer you to a bad or good company. They may also charge you for introducing you to a known recruiting company. These people have little or no knowledge of the nursing profession let alone the RN-FOR-USA-TRANSITION process.

• The fourth is a fairly good recruiting company that will secure you a job in US. You sign 2years or more employment agreement with them.

They will also be your petitioner and secure immigrant visas for you and your family. This type of agency will only come in after you have passed NCLEX-RN and gotten your RN license. They actually make too much profit compared to what they invested in you.

Their benefit package is poor, and most RNs will usually run away from them without finishing their contracts. This type of agencies are usually owned by individuals and their families.

• The fifth and Good RN Recruiting Company is a recognized and well established type of RN recruiting company. They are well known and respected. They usually have offices in almost every corner of the world.

And these regional offices recruit hard working RNs around the world. This type of RN agencies are ready to sponsor almost every aspect of your relocation process; from NCLEX-RN sponsorship to on-assignment assistance.

And of course, this is the only type ,under the different RN agencies ,I will recommend to any foreign trained RN who want to relocate to USA.
