BEFORE RN DEPARTS FINALLY FOR USA.
Next is final preparation before RN departs for US. After a successful medical and visa interview, the embassy issues you a US immigrant visa with alien registration number and a sealed package to be delivered to the immigration at the port of entry. This package and other traveling documents must always be carried in your hand luggage. Your green card and social security card will be posted to you few weeks after arrival in USA. Your agency will give you further guidelines and instructions for the immigration process at the airport. Many RN agencies will pay for the one way ticket for the RN only, and you will be responsible for the flight tickets for the rest of your family. Details of your meet-and-greet are provided at this stage. Your agency provides you with your apartment’s address and the itinerary. Enough preparations would have been made by your agency for you. They would have arranged for an auto company to contact you with offers and financing plans for various make of cars. Some RNs however prefer used cars. And others will like to arrive in US and shop for their choice of brand or model. In the case of the latter option, you may have to pay the full cost of the car outright. Because you have no credit history in US yet, and it may be difficult, expensive or impossible to access financing for a car for the same reason. The other option for you will be you joining a local credit union upon arrival. They can offer finances with good interest rates than banks and other lenders. But you will have to save with the credit union for a couple of months before your loan application is considered. Another preparation your employer would have done before your arrival is arrangement for your accommodation. The estate company would have sent out application forms to you through your agency. The estate company also asks about your rent history. The earlier you provide this information the better, because your apartment must be ready before arrival. In fact, you should have your apartment’s address before departure for US. Many people will prefer to live close to their assigned hospital. But that may not always be the case as your employer usually considers safety and cost first. And sometimes, “inside arrangements” with a particular estate company is the deciding factor. Some international RNs who have the means prefer visiting US ahead to make arrangements for their choice of accommodation before relocating finally with the rest of the family. Your employer would have also made arrangements with a bank for you to open an account(s) and issue you a credit card on arrival. You will only have to walk in and turn in an introductory letter from your agency to the specific bank and you are done. Finally, your agency will advise you on the amount of money to have on you, what and what to bring along and the contents of your luggage.A good RN agency will ensure all the above are in place before RN departs to take up her/his assignment.
