ARE YOU A FOREIGN EDUCATED RN, AND WANT TO MOVE TO USA?

Welcome to the Registered Nurses' website which gives you important information a foreign educated RN needs to make a smooth transition from international RN to US RN. It is one website by a foreign trained RN that gives you detailed and current step-by-step guidelines on how to relocate to USA hassle free!

You need this information before kick starting your relocation process. It begins with how to secure sponsorship from a good RN agency, through preparation for NCLEX-RN up to RN’s first life in America. And of course, a personal account of my very first clinical orientation experience in USA.

International Registered Nurses generally come under two groups:

Group One

That’s RNs from the developing countries. Most of these nurses have little or no experience about the advanced and sophisticated western nursing system due to a less resourced background and limited exposure.

Group Two

That is Registered Nurses from the UK, Canada, Australia, China, Korea etc.

This group of international RNs has advantages both in clinical experience and is more technologically exposed than group one.

But no big deal! The only problem here is that a Group One foreign educated RN will have to work a little harder and learn faster during his/her clinical orientation. Few however, have worked in the UK or Australia and so had some travel nurse experience.

This website is however tailored to meet the needs of both groups. Thanks to my experience as having moved to USA as an international registered nurse from group one.

Key Words

• Registered Nurse (RN)

• State Registered Nurse (SRN)

• Registered General Nurse (RGN)

There are no distinctions in the above title descriptions; they are all the same designation.

• Nurse Recruiting Agencies

• Travel RN companies

• International RN employer/employing agencies

All the above agencies/companies do the same work.

The process of Foreign RN-to-USA RN transition can be stressful, and even traumatic if not handled properly. Many have had very awful experiences – you can avoid them.

Others felt abused and used. They were given very wrong information. Their ambitions and expectations were over heightened. Other international RNs signed deadly contracts and had to run away from their respective employers/recruiting agencies.

That is why understanding and having comprehensive knowledge of the US nursing system is most important. Thus you get to know what to pack and what to expect in your new world. And with all this information no one can cheat you, let alone push you to sign bad contracts.

You may be an experienced ER registered nurse moving to USA, but you should still expect a different emergency room from the one you knew. You should expect different working colleagues and different patients.

From my experience as a foreign educated RN, I can say moving from a less resourced health system to a relatively advanced and complex system is a difficult thing. And, an unfamiliar western culture can also be a traumatic experience to many, especially those with no traveler RN experience.

In addition is the international RN orientation. This is one big challenge for many foreign educated RNs from the developing countries.

Are you thinking of seeking the sponsorship of a recruiting agency? Many registered nurses prefer to handle every aspect of their relocation all by themselves. This may take forever!

Seeking the services of RN recruiting agency is thus very important.

This website gives guidelines on how you can identify bad RN recruiting agencies, and how to catch the eye of a good nurse recruiting agency.

All over the world, there are lots of misconceptions and stories are told about how difficult the RN licensure exam is. But I can assure you that determination and good understanding of NCLEX-RN makes it easy to pass.

So important was my dream of moving to US that I made a 21hour journey to an NCLEX-RN exam center for my RN licensure exam.

As if that was not enough display of my determination, I had to sit for almost five (5) hours straight, ignoring the breaks, to answer all 265 exam questions.

Good preparations and learning the right material the right way are important. In the same vein, you will need to understand CAT/NCLEX-RN and the scoring system.

How and what does it take to acquire a nurse visa? The processes and stages for an RN to obtain green card and work permit for his/her family are well explained in this website.

Having relocated to US, gone through the orientation successfully and coming out as a US RN savvy you can then launch your RN career into the juicy travel nursing world. Traveler RN nursing is a rewarding nursing job with the opportunity for the RN to travel around US to fill up nursing positions under short-term contracts.

Most RN jobs come with career advancement opportunities. RN educational opportunities stretch from specialization RN courses to higher degrees.

I have also been a victim of crazy transactions and made a couple of costly mistakes. And so did many a foreign educated RNs, and new immigrants. I will be sharing a few tips about my bad experiences on USA day-to-day social life. You got to know this so you avoid falling prey to fraudulent and opportunistic deals.

New immigrants including the foreign educated RN with little or no idea about their new world are always potential victims of bad offers and fraud.
